About Caroline
After over 10 years in ski patrol rescue in France, qualifying at the Ecole National de Ski et de l’Alpinisme in Chamonix Caroline feels very passionate about this course, having attended search and rescue operations on avalanches where the team were often met with difficult challenges.
Qualified also in Nivométéo (snow stratification studies), as an ‘Artificer’ (explosives handler for bombing snow accumulations) and an Avalanche Search and Rescue dog Handler she has an all-round knowledge in this specialty.
Hard to maybe believe when Caroline’s passion for the mountains was only ignited at the age of 10 when her family took her on a ski trip to Meribel, progressing later to compete nationally in freestyle skiing in the discipline of ski ballet and aerials!
Your Stay
You will have the opportunity to stay in a variety of different accommodation types, ranging from a luxury hotel in the National Park, the unique King Henry VI’s Chateau Folly or a rustic mountain barn in the depths of the valley d’Ossau. Here you can sample the local culinary delights of the region whether this be in the French or Spanish Pyrenees.

In a safe re-enacted simulation you will:
- Learn and take part in creating the avalanche simulation terrain.
- Learn about all the search and rescue equipment and techniques, and be able to put these into practice. This includes:
- Search and Rescue dogs
- An avalanche beacon
- The Recco SAR system
- Probing techniques
- The final digging out
- Learn what you need to do if you witness an avalanche and the order of the rescue operations.
